Donald Trump spoke about his older brother's fights against alcoholism Thursday during his speech stating that the opioid epidemic in the United States was a national health emergency, saying he had learned from life "very difficult"

Fred Trump, Jr. died in 1981 as an alcoholic at the age of 43, and his younger brother has already said that Fred's suffering made him avoid alcohol and cigarettes.

Trump, who was eight years his junior, said he listened to his brother's warnings, and never drank to this day.
